A large brush fire is burning near Mevaseret Zion in central Israel, with police warning that they are considering closing Route 1, the main highway linking Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

Law enforcement officials confirm that residents of two streets in Mevaseret Zion, located just west of Jerusalem, are being evacuated as a precaution.

Fire officials add that they are also considering evacuating hikers in the area depending on how the situation develops.
