The Department for Internal Police Investigations (DIPI) has launched an investigation following the release of disturbing footage showing a Yasam riot police officer violently striking Chareidi youths during disturbances in Jerusalem last week.
A Justice Ministry spokesperson confirmed that multiple videos of the incident were submitted for review, backing an earlier i24 News report.
The footage, which has circulated widely in recent days, appears to show an armored officer chasing and repeatedly beating Chareidi youths with a baton, forcing them up a staircase and into a building.
The clashes erupted last Thursday after the arrest of a local youth, following an incident involving a municipal parking inspector. The confrontation quickly escalated, with 13 police officers reportedly injured and a police vehicle overturned.
According to Hebrew media reports, police later realized the original suspects were draft dodgers and sought to transfer them to the Military Police — a detail not mentioned in official police statements. Police used stun grenades and tear gas to disperse the crowd.
