GM Recalls 80,000+ Chevy Equinox EVs Over Pedestrian Alert Defect

General Motors is recalling more than 80,000 2025–2026 Chevy Equinox EVs due to a defect in the pedestrian alert sound system.

NHTSA said the alert sounds can vary in volume and may not meet federal requirements, making it harder for pedestrians to tell whether a vehicle is accelerating or slowing down, which could increase the risk of injury.

Dealers will update the body control module software for free, and owner notification letters will begin mailing on February 2.
