🚨 Major Winter Storm to Dump Up to 18 Inches of Snow on NYC Area, Disrupt Travel Across Tri-State

A fast-approaching and potentially deadly winter storm is expected to slam the New York City region early Sunday, dumping as much as 18 inches of snow and bringing bone-chilling temperatures along with widespread travel disruptions across the tri-state area.

Snow is expected to begin sometime between midnight and 8 a.m. Sunday and continue into Monday, creating hazardous road conditions and likely grounding or delaying hundreds of flights in and out of the region.

Forecasters are predicting up to 16 inches of snow for New York City, with totals reaching as high as 18 inches in parts of the Hudson Valley — which could make it the biggest snowfall in that region since the historic Blizzard of 1996.

The storm is also expected to impact other parts of the country, including major cities like Dallas and Charlotte, which could trigger flight delays nationwide, including in New York.

Meteorologists say this could be one of the most significant snowstorms to hit New York City in recent years. The last time Central Park recorded more than 12 inches of snow was in early February 2021, when over 17 inches fell.

Widespread snowfall totals of 8 to 12 inches are expected across much of the region, including New York City, the Hudson Valley, nearly all of New Jersey, and parts of Connecticut. Coastal areas may see slightly lower accumulations due to periods of sleet and freezing rain mixing in.

Long Island, the immediate NYC metro area, and much of New Jersey are forecast to receive between 6 and 12 inches, though totals could be reduced in southern areas where mixed precipitation is more likely.

Residents are being urged to prepare for dangerous travel conditions, power outages, and extremely cold temperatures as the storm moves through the region.

  1. How is that more snow than in 2010 when there was more than two feet and the Bloomberg Administration failed to plow for 4 days? I think the memory is hazy in these weather reports

  2. New York City had a bigger Storm more recent than 1996. Sometime between 2015-2019 there were parts in New York City that had 24 plus inches.
