New York State DMV Raises Penalties, Lowers Suspension Threshold Under New Point System

Starting tomorrow, New York State’s updated DMV point system will take effect, increasing penalties for more serious traffic violations. Under the changes, offenses such as DWI and driving without a license could carry up to 11 points, while the threshold for potential license suspension has been lowered to 10 points over a two-year period. Officials say the update is aimed at cracking down on dangerous driving and repeat offenders.
