A senior U.S. administration official says an Iran agreement will not be signed today, but indicated negotiations are still making progress toward a broader deal, according to a report by Trey Yingst.
• Separately, American negotiators reportedly believe Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has agreed “in principle” to a broad framework that would include addressing Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
• The administration official said the U.S. is prepared to offer major sanctions relief if Iran makes “significant accommodations” on uranium enrichment, while stressing: “If you have a final deal where the Iranians are enriching, then you don’t have a final deal.”
• According to the report, major issues still need to be finalized, including how enriched uranium would be removed and what enforcement mechanisms would be used in a final agreement.
