An Arab security guard was arrested by the police on Monday night for allegedly allowing several suspects to climb up to the roof of the hotel where he worked and hurl stones at Chareidi protesters.
“Officers from the Jerusalem District arrested a hotel security guard for questioning, after it was suspected that yesterday he allowed several suspects to climb to the roof and throw stones or objects at protesters,” the police spokesperson stated on Tuesday.
“The police investigation was opened following a report and footage received by the police regarding an incident of stone-throwing from the roof of a hotel in the city toward protesters who were on the nearby road at the time.”
“As part of the investigation, testimonies were collected and various findings were gathered, including documentation of the incident. According to the initial suspicion arising from the investigation, the suspect who was arrested, employed at the site as an armed security guard, climbed to the building’s roof together with additional employees, where he opened the door leading to the roof, and thereby, according to the suspicion, enabled the ascent of the other suspects.
“In the documentation in the investigators’ possession, which was also distributed on social networks, the additional employees can be seen apparently throwing stones or objects, while the suspect stands nearby, and contrary to what is required of him by virtue of his position, did not act to prevent the perpetration of the offense or report it.”
“The 39-year-old suspect, a resident of east Jerusalem, was arrested tonight by officers at his home and taken for questioning, at the end of which he was brought a short time ago before the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court, which acceded to the police request and extended his detention by three days.”
“The investigation continues with the aim of reaching all those involved and prosecuting them fully.”
