A report alleging increased Israeli intelligence activity targeting senior U.S. officials has sparked a wave of criticism from several prominent figures on the American right, despite a forceful White House denial of the claims.
According to reports published by The New York Times and NBC News, U.S. officials have recently expressed concerns about alleged Israeli efforts to gather intelligence regarding the Trump administration’s strategy toward Iran, including information related to senior officials involved in shaping policy.
The White House swiftly rejected the allegations.
“The entire story is completely false and is based on someone who has no idea what is really happening,” a White House official said.
Nevertheless, the report ignited fierce reactions from several politicians, former officials, and commentators who have frequently criticized U.S. support for Israel.
Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene wrote, “Our government has been captured by a foreign government.”
Rep. Thomas Massie, one of the most outspoken Republican critics of both Israel and President Trump, shared the report and amplified claims that Israel had monitored American officials involved in negotiations with Iran.
Joe Kent, a former senior administration official who resigned over disagreements regarding potential military action against Iran, also blasted Israel over the allegations.
“It cannot be acceptable for Israel to target senior U.S. government officials,” Kent wrote. “This is not standard practice, especially considering that Israel relies on our security funding and diplomatic backing.”
He later intensified his criticism, accusing Israel of using its access to advance its own interests at the expense of American citizens and calling for a reassessment of the relationship between Washington and Jerusalem.
Aaron David Miller, a longtime former State Department adviser on Middle East affairs, weighed in as well, recalling extensive security precautions taken by American officials during visits throughout the region.
“For years we made sure not to hold sensitive conversations in hotel rooms that had not been secured or swept,” Miller wrote, adding that he vaguely recalled an incident that nearly escalated into a confrontation between American and Israeli security personnel over security procedures.
Right-wing commentator Alex Jones also seized on the report, calling it a “huge development with historic significance” and claiming that “the Trump administration is filled with Israeli agents.”
The allegations come amid heightened tensions surrounding Iran policy and ongoing debates within the Republican Party regarding America’s relationship with Israel.
Israeli officials have not publicly responded to the latest claims, while the White House continues to insist that the reports are inaccurate.
