Platner’s campaign was overshadowed by controversy after reports surfaced that he previously had a tattoo resembling the Nazi SS Totenkopf symbol, along with other allegations that drew national attention during the race.

With the primary behind him, Platner is expected to face Republican Sen. Susan Collins in November in one of the country’s most closely watched Senate contests.
