The IDF Assigning Non-Frum Inductees to Chareidi Units

idffDespite some of the numbers that portray a success in enlisting more chareidim into the IDF, in fact, the numbers are down.

In a discussion with chareidi soldiers, the commander of the Netzach Yehuda Battalion Lt.-Colonel Uri Levy, explained to his soldiers the numbers are down despite reports to the contrary. He explains the last wave of induction, 50 inductees and the lt.-colonel explained “these are not my boys. There are no beards, no tzitzis on any of them and they have pierced ears. They are trying to pull one over on me. This never occurred before”.

The commander believes the non-frum soldiers are playing the game to benefit from the many perks Nachal Chareidi soldiers receive, including two years of service and the third year dedicated to studies.

  1. Not much news here. The Nacahal Chareidi/Netzach Yehuda unit was *always* only a minority of chareidim and a majority of Daati. Even before everything the chareidim were under 20% of the unit. The only new thing here is that so few chareidim are now joining that they need non-religious to fill up the units.
