Wives of Assaulted Chareidi Soldiers: Bring Those Responsible to Justice

arre[VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE]

Wives of chareidi IDF soldiers have had enough of the insults and attacks, turning to Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked to act to assist them and their soldier husbands. In their letter they call on Shaked to bring those responsible for the attacks against chareidi soldiers to justice, prompted by the attack in Meah Shearim a number of weeks ago, which seems to be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

The wives explain the sacrifice made by their husbands is a significant one, and the campaign against them has been ongoing for too long. They speak of the caricatures depicting soldiers as pigs holding guns and how those behind the chardakim campaign turn innocent frum children against them as they are portrayed as villains and people who betrayed their Yiddishkheit.

The women add that the chareidi community is a closed tzibur and permitting these people to portray them as outcasts significantly negatively impacts their lives. “Tens of families of soldiers have paid this price already” they explain in the letter to Minister Shaked.

They call on the newly-appointed senior minister to become proactive and bring the persons behind the chardakim campaign to justice.

The chareidi male arrested for the attack in Meah Shearim was arraigned on Tuesday, Rosh Chodesh Sivan. He remains incarcerated at this time. The suspect insists he is not connected to the attack and that he was not there at the time. However video footage of the area shows he was there at the time, contrary to his statements. Police report the suspect has also has a record as he has been involved in violence in the past.

The video shows the suspect at the arraignment hearing as well as the officer’s vehicle following the attack in Meah Shearim.

His mother, Mrs. Yael Alon calls on Israel Police to do more to protect her son and others like him.

  1. my reports, the soldier’s car was attacked not the soldier,It’s more important for the Justice minister to stop the killing and assault on Jews by Arabs! The verbal attack on “chadakim” isn’t life-threatening while the Arab attacks against Jews ,even in Israel’s capital, are!!!!!

  3. “Police report the suspect has also has a record as he has been involved in violence in the past.”

Throw the dog in prison & make him eat chalav stam. I would strip this dogs parents of every Government benefit they are receiving as well. It is high time these lowlife trash are taught a lesson.
I really hope Ayelet Shaked can do something to help.

  4. How is it a sacrifice to join the IDF, especially for a hareidi. The pay and benefits are fantastic.

Whether it is “justice” for the state to prosecute those who oppose its policies is debateable (though I suspect a Beis Din would might feel that wearing an IDF uniform in public is a provocation given it is the same uniform worn by those who arrest yeshiva students for refusing to serve in the army – though one should note that all the hareidi leaders have condemned anything other than non-violent protests).

  5. It’s about time that some legitimately Torah Jews stood up to the pseudo-religious fanatics that give all of us a bad name. There also needs to be a real revamping of Charedi attitudes in general in Eretz Yisroel to the effect that a person can be grounded in Torah and that this does not preclude military service or having a job. I think American successes among the Yeshivish community in this regard would be highly instructive to the Charedim in Eretz Yisroel.

  6. He’s been charged with breaking the window of a car and will be forced to pay the cost to fix the broken window if found guilty.

  7. Worry as much about has hem and his Torah as u r about the chareidi soldiers honor. I nave yet to speak to some one who supports army service who truly has a TORA HAShkofo in its pure Form most of them are too willing to sacrifice tora on the altar of false idiolgies

  8. Go down to the kossel.See the , minyonim.Chassidim,Yerushalmis, yeshiva leit, together with chilonim, soldiers in uniform. No one ever says anything to upset anyone else.
There’s always a lunatic fringe, but it doesn’t represent te frum jews in Israel.

  9. FrumHersh
You are absolutely correct…at the Kosel. However, in other parts of Yerushalayim, the “lunatic fringe” is alive, well and active (R”L). What is worse…many of them believe (and you will hear from some of them as responders to YWN) that what they are doing is L’Shem Shamayim. I have spoken to very close talmidim of Rav Shach zt”l. They have told me that despite his very intense and vocal (graphic) criticism of IDF, he personally was respectful to soldiers. He would be appalled at what some responders here at YWN justified horrendous actions and based it upon things that Rav Shach said. Nothing is further than the truth. Rav Shach was a Kannoy but never suggested violence against soldiers. When foolish, misguided third parties get involved, it can cause terrible things. No Godol would ever justify them.

  10. akuperma: You keep making that same statement, but your information is wrong. The only Yeshiva Bochrim that were arrested, were arrested because they didn’t report to the Draft office, like everyone else and as was always the case for them too.

That isn’t to get inducted in the Army. It’s to get a draft rating. Historically, they were given a deferment and never had to serve.

They were instructed to do that by a Rov, in response to Lapid’s stupidity.

Had they reported, as always was the norm and given a rating that would force them into the army, that would be a different matter. That has never happened and it won’t.

Personally, I believe that if someone isn’t learning, they should serve and they also have an option of community service within their own communities.

Instead, 40+ year old men had to leave their families and jobs during the Gaza war. Contrary to what you think, the IDf does everything possible to accommodate Frum soldiers and there are many of them.

  11. To my friend takingabreak,
I don’t know who your friends are that talk about the IDF without a Torah hashkafa so I will. I don’t know if you consider learning in yeshiva in Israel a Torah hashkafa or an opinion based off of Torah values but that is why I believe I am coming from. Obviously without hasgacha from hashem there would be no Eretz Yisrael but in the teva form, the IDF is the sole reason that Jews are able to live in the Holy Land and learn there and visit there and the like. This weeks parsha refers to men as כל יוצא צבא,which many say refer to the war on midyan. We see that in wartime the Torah does give credence to a Jewish army. In Israel today, I think we can all agree that there is some sort of constant wartime, with the fear of terror and Hamas and such. I’m also not so sure what you mean when you say “false ideologies”. Are you referring to supporting the land of israel? Thinking that it’s the beginning of the planting of our redemption? Because if that’s true then you are calling the views of many many rabbanim into question, which, if you’re not on the spiritual level of Rav Teichtal, HaRav Kook, the Maharal, and countless others, is not a great thing to do. Maybe you should read up on the views of those rabbis before making a comment such as yours.
