Minister Ze’ev Elkin on Thursday launched an unprecedented attack against Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara over her demand that the High Court disqualify incoming Mossad chief Roman Gofman after he was twice cleared of any wrongdoing by the senior appointments advisory committee.
“In light of yet another outrageous legal opinion by former Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara regarding the appointment of Roman Gofman as Mossad chief, I propose officially changing the definition of her role,” Elkin wrote.
“Given the fact that Israel currently has a failed opposition leader named Yair Lapid, and given that, due to a bizarre High Court ruling, the state is still forced to pay a salary to an attorney general who was dismissed from her post, I propose officially redefining her role as ‘the judicial chairwoman of the opposition.’
“At least that would accurately describe the position as she perceives it, and at least it would be clear why she is being paid from the public coffers.”
“Because she certainly is not serving as the Attorney General.”
“As far as I’m concerned, she and Lapid can split his salary fifty-fifty. In truth, she deserves the full opposition leader’s salary, because she works much harder than he does to sabotage the government’s activities.”
