An undercover agent has been operating in a joint Israel Prison Authority and Southern District Police leading to the arrest of two suspects involved in passing cellular telephones to Hamas terrorists imprisoned in Ketziot Prison in S. Israel.
A number of months ago a phone was passed into the prison in exchange for a NIS 10,000 bribe. A prison guard also received NIS 700 to buy a phone. The prison guard reported to his superiors that he was offered the money and the investigation was launched.
The phone, wrapped in a package was given to the prisoner and the bribe money was paid. Detectives then moved in and made the arrest. The prisoner who received the phone is serving a 12-year sentence for dealing in arms and conspiracy to commit a crime.
