IDF Completes Simulation of Northern Border Attack

idf1.jpgThe IDF’s northern command on Wednesday wrapped up a major training exercise involving land, air and sea forces, comprised of standing army and reserve duty units. The exercise tested the ability of the different branches of the military to work in tandem, simulating a number of different scenarios, focusing however on an assault across Israel’s northern border.

Commanders report lessons were learned from the Second Lebanon War as well as from Operation Cast Lead, the military offensive against the terrorist infrastructure in Gaza. No less important was the fact that senior command evaluated the ability of the different branches of the military to work together as a unit, of course in sync with intelligence and logistical units.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gabi Ashkenazi reported the exercise is demanded by the threats facing Israel, evaluating the military’s ability to respond to various scenarios, expressing satisfaction over the progress made, the improvement seen over recent years.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak, a former IDF chief of staff, also visited and evaluated the exercise, which was under the command of Northern District Commander Major-General Gabi Eisenkott.

Other senior commanders also came to observe the exercise, which IDF officials stress is part of the ongoing training schedule to maintain the proficiency of soldiers, not in any way connected to any immediate threat.

  1. Let me be blunt and to the point… Ehud Barak is an incompetent fool, not qualified to be dog-catcher, much less Defense Minister!!!

  2. Ignore Barak and the others. But don’t ignore our soldiers and officers. Some are frum, most are not. But they are Yiden in a very dangerous spot. We must daven for the safety of all of them.

  3. It sounds like AinOhdMilvado (post #1) has much more military experience than Ehud Barak, as well as the technical knowledge that is required to understand defense matters.

What chutzpa that those in the government (including the Likud) see Barak as the best choice for Defense Minister. They should have appointed AinOhdMilvado instead.

  4. STARWOLF – Your sarcasm displays your lack of knowledge of recent history. One need only look at Barak’s resume of one military blunder after another after another after another to know that he was appointed to appease the left end of the government and NOT because of military skill. His incompetence COSTS JEWISH LIVES!

  5. AinOhdMilvado –Barak’s military resume is still light-years ahead of that of any other candidate for the post. Whose military record is better? Yours?

You don’t like his politics? So vote for someone else.

To veryintersting (post #6)–During the election campaign, the Likud came straight out and said that they wanted Barak as Defense minister. they know that they would have to form a coalition government, and preferred a wide one with Labor, primarily to get Barak as Defense Minister. They know full well that they have no one with a similar record to offer instead, including the past Chiefs-of-General-Staff that they have in their roster.

And the more right-wing parties have even less.
