A group, representing HASC Center’s programs for individuals with developmental disabilities, went to New York State’s Capital last week to meet with legislators. This group consisted of program participants, program supervisors and coordinators. Their mission was to thank the legislators for their on-going support and to impress upon them the need and importance of the many services provided by organizations like HASC Center. The message also conveyed the trust that they, as constituents, placed in their government representatives in Albany to remember them when faced with important decisions about funding the services they receive.
The group had the opportunity to meet personally with State Legislators including Senate Democratic Leader John Sampson, Senate Finance Chair Carl Kruger, Senator Daniel Squadron, Senator Eric Adams, Senator Kevin S. Parker, Senator Bill Perkins, Senator Martin Malave Dilan, Senator Rev. Ruben Diaz, Sr., Assembly Member Felix Ortiz, Assembly Member Rhoda Jacobs, Assembly Member Karim Camara and Assembly Member James F. Brennan who heard firsthand of the significant accomplishments individuals in the group achieved through participation in HASC Center’s wide array of programs and services. They also heard about the many individuals and families waiting anxiously to receive services.
HASC Center under the dedicated directorship of Shmiel Kahn is committed to focusing its energies tirelessly to provide people with developmental disabilities in our community with the necessary tools and guidance to help them achieve the highest level of independence and empowerment possible. By insuring their input into decision-making at all levels of the agency’s management hierarchy, HASC Center aims to achieve more valued program outcomes and genuine qualitative improvements in their lives.
It was evident by the praise that the State legislators shared with HASC Center’s leadership, that they were impressed with the care provided to its participants and recognized that government must continue supporting the mission of HASC Center.
