Israel Police Remain on Heightened Alert Status

Israel Police forces remain on heightened alert status around the country today, Tuesday, focusing on Israeli Arab areas such as Nachal I�ron and the Triangle area.

They are operating on level 3, one level below a state of emergency. Vacations and days off were canceled, and many troops were called in as the Israeli Arab sector declared a general strike following the Gaza flotilla commando operation.

Stormy protests took place on Monday evening in the Nachal I�ron area, and police and members of the press came under attack in Um el-Fahm. Firebombs were thrown at police as well and a number of police personnel and members of the media were lightly injured.

Magen David Adom, Israel�s primary emergency medical service provider is also remaining on heightened alert status.
