This year’s Ramadan prayers for the Muslim community in Hebron included damaging and pulling out mezuzos in the Ma’aras HaMachpelah. Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Rabbi Eli Ben-Dahan traveled to Hebron, visiting the Machpelah to get a firsthand look at the vandalism.
The discovery was made on erev Shabbos Parshas Chazon 5773 when Jews arrived ahead of Shabbos, following Friday afternoon Ramadan prayers in the location. Two mezuzos were completely ripped off and a third was damaged and defiled as mud and garbage was left behind by the Muslim worshipers as a gift to the Jews on erev Shabbos.
Ben-Dahan condemned the attack, adding an official police complaint has been filed and he personally has been in touch with senior police commanders, who told him as of motzei Shabbos they have not been successful in apprehending those responsible.
