MBD is the best as of now, cuz he’s got a rich voice & he’s got bass.
I don’t really enjoy high pitched voices which tend to give me a headache after a while.
Mordechai Ben David, Avraham Fried(man)
Yaakov Shwekey, Gad Elbaz, theres more….January 5, 2011 1:30 am at 1:30 am #1218999
You can’t get more real and ‘hartzig’ music than him. No shtick, just real beautiful voice singing with feeling.January 5, 2011 1:35 am at 1:35 am #1219000
Dudu FischerJanuary 5, 2011 1:36 am at 1:36 am #1219001
I understand that Avraham Fried and MBD were the kings of jewish music. They still are amazing now but Shwekey has definitely taken over as the new king of Jewish music. No question about it!!!January 5, 2011 1:38 am at 1:38 am #1219002

Probably Chazan Helfgott.January 5, 2011 3:44 pm at 3:44 pm #1219012

What bothers me are some of the clueless comments on this thread. I am 36 years old and I grew up with the real deal. Mordechai ben David ( an amazing voice, composer, and maven ) Shlomo Carlebach – unreal, Bentzion Shenker and David Werdyger. These were flawless artists that understood music and were able to convey their talent to the public. Today all you young folk are in love in Shwekey. Why, because he reaches insanely high notes. But after a while you can get sick and tired of it. He does not compose songs has very little haavana. Todays “singers” are just singing. They have no understanding. Even MBD today has lost his touch because he is influeneced by the ignorant hamon am.January 5, 2011 5:20 pm at 5:20 pm #1219017
Either Chazzan Yaakov Shtark or Chazzan Yaakov LemmerJanuary 5, 2011 6:26 pm at 6:26 pm #1219018
Vocally, Helfgott is the Pavarotti of this generation. There are secular Jews who have phenomenal voices also.January 5, 2011 6:32 pm at 6:32 pm #1219019
git meshiga- lets stick to the singers who you like and not comments ok? sorry.January 5, 2011 7:08 pm at 7:08 pm #1219020
ohad, shloimie gertner, meydad tasa, yonatan shienfeldJanuary 5, 2011 9:09 pm at 9:09 pm #1219021
Quality & control of voice (singers): Avram Fried, Isaac Honig, Sruly Werdyger, Shloime Daskal, and Shloime Tausig
Best singers (beat, warmth): MBD, Gertner
Best composers (today): Moshe Goldman A”H, Shlomo Carlebach A”H, Ben Zion Shenker. These were consistently producers oh high quality heimishe niggunim.
Most niggunim on records today have no musical quality and are garbage – justr beat & music accompaniment.January 6, 2011 2:30 am at 2:30 am #1219022
Yakov Yosef Stark and Yechiel Nahari. I would have said MBD of 30 years ago. You can listen to his music then for hours. Too bad he changed his styleJanuary 6, 2011 4:22 am at 4:22 am #1219023
“Too bad he changed his style”
thats the problam with every singer, when they stop being themself and start to copy others, so you are not yourself and not the person you trying to copy.January 6, 2011 4:53 am at 4:53 am #1219024
we do not listen to the music of today. we are old timers. even my kids.

The singers are under pressure to change/New Age their style by concert promoters that have to keep outdoing themselves until everyone has turned themselves inside-out.February 28, 2011 6:05 pm at 6:05 pm #1219028
For me, I think Yaakov Shwekey is the best so far… He knows to Whom he sings to and about and that is to The almighty Hashem!February 28, 2011 7:46 pm at 7:46 pm #1219029
Git Meshige- “What bothers me are some of the clueless comments on this thread.”
Agreed comments such as yours are definetly clueless and not needed. Shwekey knows what he is singing and is one of the greatest.February 28, 2011 8:38 pm at 8:38 pm #1219030

Git Meshige: I am in full aggreement with you, except for your second and last sentences…(i’m not 37, and i don’t think MBD’s lost his touch!)March 2, 2011 2:34 am at 2:34 am #1219033
Moshe Laufer’s take: “I doubt that someone like Fried or Mordechai Ben David will ever come up. I don’t think that they currently have any heirs, after so many years of such dominance. I work with many singers, but for now they have no replacement, in terms of their performance and emotion – they are really the greatest ever.”March 2, 2011 2:53 am at 2:53 am #1219034
older: MBD, shwekey, matisyuhu, gad elbaz and gertner
young: yonaton, meydad tasaApril 13, 2011 1:38 am at 1:38 am #1219036
