(I know there was a similar post,

but there are so many Jewish songs, and I’m trying to get the best.)

So What is your favorite song?

Please give short & sweet answers: Singer;Album;Song

    Benny Friedman;Taamu;Batu’ach Ani

There are a number of songs which are my very favorite songs. But one of my very favorite songs are from the days of yesteryear is from Avraham Fried’s very first album, No Jew will be left behind – “Return” – first of all, I love the tune of the introduction to it, secondly, it’s a very heartzig & warm song in my honest humble opinion. After this one, there’s a whole list of songs which I love as well-but the list might be too long to put in here.

ALEPH, BAIS, VAIS, ALEPH, BAIS, VAIS, GIMMEL, DALET, HEY, GIMMEL, DALET, HEY…(Not sure what the title is) That was my son`s submission. He sings it all day so it must be his favorite. You should try it sometime.

I’m going go answer the question posed in the title:

Everyone Must Answer: Your Favorite Song

“Gretchen am Spinradde.” I especially like Elly Ameling singing it.

    I refuse to answer.

What gives you the right to demand that I “must” answer?

Personally I’m a classical-music man myself so strictly speaking I’d choose a favourite piece of music rather than a favourite song per se. But I won’t tell what it is, so nyer.

    #1032852

Well there are quite a number of songs which I really like, but I’d say amongst the top of the list would be Rak Elokim by Chaim Yisrael

And how many “kanoim” in this room were positively scandalized by that admission? I dunno, maybe their posts were censured or somethin…

WOW! What’s with the hostility here? That’s a lack of perfection!

Another favorite song of mine is cry no more, by Shwekey

I’m so burnt out of music…I’ve listened to insane quantities of music from every genre out there and nothing makes me happy anymore. I’m drifting towards country music but I think I’m gonna go back to Jewish music fairly soon.

I’m cool because I listen to music that 99.99% of the world doesn’t listen to. I don’t use iTunes because there is nothing I like on iTunes!

I’m doing it because I want to, and not because you told me to. 🙂

I have way too many favorite songs to list. Right now it’s Yaleh by Shwekey, Yesh Tikva (although i’m rapidly getting tired of it), and Bernstein’s Candide Overture, which has kind of grown on me lately.

Lately I’ve been enjoying Scottish fiddle instrumentals. Otherwise, I have a Pandora station that started with Yanni about a year ago, and it’s really starting to ripen now. Most recently, I added Dave Brubeck. Other artists on the feed include John Tesh, Apollo 100, The Piano Guys, and Natalie MacMaster (all instrumental).

Google for Piano Guys videos. They’re really cool.

Any type of song you could sing at a kumzitz. All other Jewish music has to much pizzazz in it, but songs sung at a kumzitz make you feel inherently spiritual when you sing them.

If we also meant to include non-Jewish music, I love, “Bring Him Home” from Les Miserables and “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic. Both of those songs bring me to tears (as do the two Jewish songs I meantioned).

    #1032889

    @Vogue,

You dont feel inherently spiritual during the first 3 or 4 songs at a wedding? Those high energy numbers with the power chords and the blaring horn lines? I always laugh though during the start of the second dance set when I start singing a song in my head about a traveler from Australia.

Most songs you would sing at a Kumzitz are written in a minor key. That’s a songwritting trick to “tug at the heartstrings”

We associate minor chords and minor key melodies with sad/somber/emotional moments and feelings. So you could write a song with the happiest most joyful pasuk in the Torah and put it in a minor key and it would sound at home at a kumzits.

    Loads of favourite songs.

But one which I absolutely loved was Shir HaShalom/Song of Peace from MBD. Yonatan Sheinfelds version.

Kol Berama (I’m not sure if it is Yigal Caleks or Yossi Greens) is another one of my favourites.

The responses on this thread prove my point that Jewish Music has officially died.

No point me mentioning my favorite song, noone will know it.

    How sad….
