HaRav Moshe Meiselman SHLIT”A — who agrees with HaRav Kook ZT”L — is a leading expert on this subject. His book “Torah, CHAZAL & Science” is an excellent reference.

In addition to the many hours he spent discussing these matters with his uncle, HaRav Yosef Dov Soloveitchik ZT”L, Rav Meiselman earned a Doctorate of Science degree from MIT. As one who is also privileged to be a Bnam Shel Kdoshim and an MIT alumnus, I highly recommend “Torah, CHAZAL & Science” by Rav Moshe Meiselman.

Watching a Chassidic Rebbe with Vaisa Zocken (white socks) throwing apples this past Simchas Torah in Chicago, I thought I was watching the Chicago White Sox, while everyone else was following the Cubs.

I am more concerned about another OU Kashrus situation:

The hundreds of Milchig (Dairy) coffee creamers they certify as Kosher. In accordance with some obscure government regulation, these are mislabeled as “NON-DAIRY”; an invitation to use them during a Fleishig (Meat) meal.

    Shame on OU!!!

My experience with Chicago — since arriving here as a single “Bochur” 39 years ago — has been:

    * The Orthodox Jewish community of Chicago is among the best for Hachnossas Orchim (i.e., welcoming strangers).

    * This is true of all segments: Chassidic, Lithuanian, Modern Orthodox, etc.

    * Just walk into any Shul, Bais Medrash, Kollel… and see for yourself.

    * If your experience parallels mine, you will get multiple greetings, multiple invitations for Shabbos…

Any suggestions on preventing the very unfortunate closure of the Job Board?

Perhaps another organization may be interested in continuing this essential Chesed?

As one who has been actively involved with the OU Job Board — trying to do Chesed — I protest the closing of this very vital service to Jewish people worldwide.

I understand that there was Machlokes (disagreement) between the OU leadership and the Job Board director. However, this is a poor excuse.

It is the obligation of the OU to continue their Job Board (which they have funded from their Kosher certification fees) or transfer it to another organization! “Lo Saamod Al Dam Reiecha” (You cannot stand by idly while other Jews are suffering…from unemployment, etc.)!!!

Allowing Milchig (dairy) products that they certify to be labeled NON-DAIRY in big bold letters is a serious offense: “Lifnei Iver Lo Sitain Michshol” (It is forbidden to cause another Jew to sin)!

Someone may consume these during a Fleishig (meat) meal!

The fact that in smaller print they say OU-D or dairy is not a reliable solution.

In this and other matters, they cannot be impartial. I wonder how much revenue they would lose by refusing to certify these — nearly 1,000 (!!!) — products!

OU tends to be very lenient in Kashrus supervision.

Example: The nearly 1,000 (!!!) Milchig coffee creamers that they certify are labeled NON-Dairy in large letters (based on some government rule), but the casein (cheese) ingredient is listed in fine print.

I have queried them on this, but have gotten evasive replies.

My Posek says this is a serious issue!!!
