Ahsreinu – yup, R’Shafier is #1 lecturer on my MP3 player! I’ve already made myself a mileage goal to accomplish this winter and then I’ll take some running outdoors. Till then, the boring treadmill.

asdfghjkl – I have no idea how fast you run, etc, but if you’re running at an easy pace, just off the top of my head, lets say 11-12 minute miles, then 90 minutes of running = about 7-8 miles, give or take.

Ashreinu – it would probably be hard to find one for women only, but if you do find one in the metro area you can get definitely let us know.

If you do decide to go coed, it could be pretty simple if you go along with a female friend and then the 2 of you can always buddy up to practice skills together. Don’t make the mistake of going alone and then having the instructor pair you up…. (talking from experience)

    Ashreinu – 😉

For some reason, comfy clothes in a women’s only gym is more tempting. But NYC Marathon, now that’s an idea!

Till now it’s been fast music only, but hey, listening to a shiur is not a bad idea. Before you know it, 5 miles are up and you’re on your way to spiritual improvement too.

ROB – living in a very frum community, I do no think it’s appropriate for a BY girl to run within the local city streets. We learn to improvise – there’s always the gym or drive out to a park where running is acceptable there.

And yes I agree with you that more pple should be doing this, go for it!!

There was one sponsored by cojo (I think) a few years back geared for those without a previous degree/steady job. For a regular standard course, call your local hospital EMS dept or education dept and they can direct you.

    asdf – an hour and a half? I’m jealous…

BTW, running has been one of the best things I have chosen to do. Besides for dropping lbs, more fit, more energy, it’s done a lot for me in the discipline and motivation area, something I think many people can benefit from.

Other than the Chai lifeline (half) marathon comming up in January in Miami, anyone know of other half-marathons or such a little further down the calendar?

Unfortunately I’ve seen a very similair story. Child swallowed a calculator battery which quickly eroded in the esophagus, subsequently puncturing it. That kid spent several days in our ICU on the vent and thankfully, did manage to pull through after a complicated stay.

SJS – hope you can share good news with us very soon.

    I know this is 2 months late…

I run 3 miles 3-4x/week, unfortunately on the treadmill as there’s not many places for a nice BY girl to run outside.

I would love to do a 5k race, but then again I tznius may be an issue.
