Romney surrogate and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie stepped up the pressure on his candidate Thursday to release his tax returns and get the stuff out there.
If Governor Romney asked for my advice, I would say get the stuff out there. Let people see what it is, said Christie on CBSs This Morning – the second day in a row Christie has pressed Romney on the disclosure issue.
My view on it, though, is take the issue away, he added. The longer we talk about when youre going to release tax returns shall the less time were spending on [our] issues.
Meanwhile, Christie continued to defend Romney on his work at Bain Capital.
I dont think theres anything to be ashamed of, that hes been a very successful guy in the private sector and made money, builds businesses because of Mitts ingenuity and his investment in companies, said Christie. Theyre helping to restructure companies, giving them management consultation and helping to do it.
The governor also predicted that the campaign ahead would be an extended race, regardless of the outcome in South Carolina.
