Leading Flatbush Askonim Endorse Kalman Yeger For City Council

YWN has learned that an open letter to the community written by Mr. Leon Goldenberg and Mr. Chaskel Bennett, two of the frum community’s most well known and politically active leaders, will endorse Kalman Yeger for City Council, tomorrow. In a letter being published in a forthcoming community newspaper (see attached image), the respected Askonim, who wear hats for multiple communal organizations, endorse the candidacy of Kalman Yeger for the 44th City Council seat, writing that “Kalman Yeger is best qualified and ready to represent our community, today!” What makes this more notable is the fact that the two leaders are long time supporters of Dov Hikind who helped lead the battle to re-elect Mr. Hikind just last year.

YWN reached out to the activists and asked why they chose to go public with their support of Mr. Yeger in the final days of the volatile campaign. The response we received, “we have been and continue to be supporters and allies of Assemblyman Hikind and have assisted him in his re-election, but Dov is not running in this election. The current climate in the City demands a Councilman who has a real understanding and knowledge of the relevant issues to best represent our community. We deal with many of these pressing issues everyday and believe that in this race, Kalman Yeger, with his deep political relationships and years of hands on government experience, is the more qualified candidate.”

The election is this coming Tuesday, November 7.
