WATCH: Cuomo Says He Won’t Get Vaccine Until It’s “Available For My Group In Black Communities”

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Sunday that he won’t get the COVID-19 vaccine until it’s available for Black, Hispanic and poor communities in his group in New York state.

During pre-recorded remarks at the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, the governor said that “one of our pressing challenges is to make sure that the vaccine is made available fairly.”

“I am committed to social and racial justice in the distribution of this vaccine,” Cuomo said. “Race or income will not determine who lives and who dies. And I mean it. And that’s why I say to you today that I want to take the vaccine. I move around a lot and come into contact with many people and I would feel much safer if I took the vaccine. But I will not take the vaccine until the vaccine is available for my group in Black, Hispanic and poor communities around the state.”

Cuomo said the pandemic has “exposed many existing injustices in our society” and “showed us the health disparities that exist, and how many communities don’t have fair access to healthcare.”

The governor said the state is committed to making the vaccine available to everyone, noting a special task force has been set up that’s led by Attorney General Letitia James, National Urban League President and CEO Marc Morial, Secretary of State Rossana Rosado and Healthfirst President and CEO Pat Wang.

As part of the effort, Cuomo said the state is designing special portable units that can be pop-up vaccination sites and brought to public housing authorities, churches and community centers around the state.

  1. Black, Hispanic and poor communities in his group of gay people in New York state.
Be last. Die the way you killed the elderly in nursing homes. Then New York can forget you existed.

  2. Yes, and why should he get it any sooner?
The fact that Congress is getting it before other citizens of the USA is wrong.
I am a senior Citizen waiting my turn. Cuomo is not a King, he is a citizen as I am.

  3. Cuomo Says He Won’t Get Vaccine Until It’s “Available For My Group In Black Communities Even mass murderers must get credit, when they do something right אין מקפדין שכר:- This is the only thing cuomo ever did right in his entire life.

  4. “My group” – well born, politically connected, people who managed to join the 1% while working for the government?

or maybe he has reason to doubt the safety or efficacy of the vaccine and prefers to let others go first

  5. Why hasn’t Cuomo paid any reparations to those same poor downtrodden blacks that his heart aches so much for??? What a sanctimonious elitist idiot. He is clearly setting up his run for President in 2024.

  6. He’s a complete fool, he’s putting himself in danger in order to make a publicity stunt, he seems intent on capturing the black vote for some future purpose, that’s unfortunate he’s caused enough harm and problems in NY, it would be a shame if he went elsewhere to make more trouble

  7. The reason they died twice as much(which im curious to know if it is based on truthful statistics)
…..say he is right….it is because the black community did not practice social distancing, did and currently does not wear masks or take the coronavirus as seriously as the whites.
I drove through “white” communities and there was hardly anyone out on the streets.
Driving through the “black “communities was like any other day. Everyone next to each other, getting together etc…..
I’m sure the Black Lives Matter rallies didn’t help much…..
Maybe they don’t understand how the coronavirus works…..you may not have symptoms and may think your fine but you can pass it on to an elderly grandparent or parent.
After the rallies they probally went home thinking they were fine…..

  8. Also he is living in a fantasy world……wake UP!
People who are poor have the best health insurance. Medicaid! .I should know I have it!
Its the middle class that has to pay co-pays and such.
I don’t pay a cent for seeing a doctor and for prescriptions.
