Simcha Felder Has Free Paper Lawn Bags Required For Leaf Collection

felder2.jpgNYC Council Member Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn) is distributing free heavy-duty paper bags for leaf collection at his district office in Boro Park. Under the Department of Sanitation’s new leaf collection policy, it is required for Brooklyn residents to set out their fall leaves in paper bags or unlined rigid containers. People who set out their leaves in plastic bags will be subject to ticketing. In addition, leaves can only be set out on the designated “set-out” dates, November 10th and November 24th in Brooklyn.

Area residents can pick up one free large paper lawn bag, donated by Pasternacks, at Councilman Felder’s office at 4424 16th Avenue in Brooklyn. For locations where paper lawn bags can be purchased, residents can call Councilman Felder’s office at 718-853-2704.

  1. For some reason people insist on raking their leaves and bagging them when they can just mow them over and mulch them into their lawn. Much easier to do.

  2. torahis1 you must not live here but yes there are lawns that are huge in parts of brooklyn believe it or not there are also trees and even flowers if your lucky.

  3. Hey everybody! Guess what? Leaves fall on sidewalks and porches too. The sanitation department is going to have a field day giving out tickets to:

    1) people who put leaves in plastic bags
    2) People who put leaves in empty rigid containers and don’t put them out on the right night!
The chaleryas ripped my garbage bag apart and gave me a $25 for accidently throwing 6 pieces of unsoiled paper into the regular garbage. Do you believe?
Just got $100 ticket for putting my garbage out too early – before yomtov because I didn’t want to pull the cans out on yom tov. Better be careful not to put leaves in plastic or you will get a ticket.

It might just be easier pushing the leaves into the street if you cannot pick up those brown bags.
