Simcha Felder To Vote For Barak Obama

obama-kah11.jpgA question many have been asking was answered last night on the Nachum Segal Radio Show. According to the NY Daily News Blog, Councilman Simcha Felder, was asked last night by Nachum Segal who he will be voting for on Feb. 5.

Felder answered that he’s planning to vote for Barack Obama in “protest” to the racially-tinged tactics employed by Hillary Clinton’s campaign in South Carolina.

While speaking to YWN, Simcha Felder’s spokesman Eric Kuo confirmed that Simcha will be voting for Obama, but said that he is not endorsing Barak Obama.

  1. What myopic vision . . . is it really smart to risk putting Obama, a muslim anti-semite, in the Oval Office, just to make a statement against Hillary? If you’re going to waste your vote, (and all the others who will follow you), at least vote Republican!

  2. Ummmm….aren’t there others running in NY on February 5th? Simcha, you might want to look into 2 gentelmen running on the Republican ticket. One is named Mitt Romney. The other is named John McCain.

  3. by announcing that he is voting for obama it sure sounds like an endorsement – otherwise, don’t answer the question – not every question needs to be answered. the caveat that he is not endorsing obama is more of a political ploy (double talk) in the event obama loses he can still endorse hilary.

  4. He probably can’t vote for the Republicans since he is a registered Democrat. He also knows she will win NY no matter what so his vote won’t matter really, and that voting for Obama gives him more black support.

  5. i think its pretty pathetic to vote for someone not because you believe in what theyre saying but to get back at someone else.
p.s. there is not a 2 person race happening here. why not protest by voting for a republican?

  6. It really doesn’t matter who some local politico endorses. NYS will go liberal, just as it always has regardless of what Felder thinks or says.

  7. what a sham:

I’ve known simcha Felder for many years and always knew him as the guy that wont put his interests in front of what’s right or wrong.”MORALLY”

    shame on you simcha felder.

    ladies and gentleman:

as religious people we have a moral obligation to vote for the one person that will be closest to the values of our Torah.

no its not a Obama or Hilary

folks not Mc Cain either he’s been voting like liberals since the day that he was elected.

the only one left in the race that’s somewhat of a conservative is

    Mitt Romney

now don’t get ahead of yourself, I said somewhat he’s not perfect and would of not voted for him otherwise but if Mc Cain wins the primary’s then we should abstain from voting, cause any of the democrats are the same as voting for Liberal Mc Cain.

Voting al pi daas torah would be voting for someone that believes in morality like what our holy Torah teaches us.

    VOTE Mitt Romney

  8. Reb Simcha before you speak you may want to consider the following: Hillary being nominated as the Democratic presidential candidate and Barak as HER vice president.
KEEP UP YOUR GREAT WORK ON BEHALF OF THE TZIBUR!

  9. With all due respect to Simcha Felder, who does alot of good work for the klal; You are a councilman, not a senator. Stick to BP

  10. i’m voting for obama in protest of the machshefa being metameh the ihr hatorah and in protest of those that invited and where mechanef her

  11. Uchen’vay! My yarmulka almost fell off when I read this. Whats a frimmeh yid doing voting democrat. Especially for a Soineh Yisroel, Barack “Saddam ‘Osama Bin Laden’ Hussein Obama”!
My rebbeh once told me that voting Democrat is K’ilu being oived avoida zara! Enough said.

  12. There has almost not been another such a wonderful shliach of the tzibur in our times like Simcha Felder . A selfless, fully devoted yerai shomayim, who puts all his pride, career and time on the line all the time just to help out klal yisroel, whether in tzibur inyonim, or even just to help a single individual with a pressing issue (sometimes as trivial as an unfair parking ticket). He is a MENTCH in every way, and someone who everyone knows we can ABSOLUTELY TRUST. Also, in a relatively short time he has gained the admiration and trust of many bigwigs outside of our community, like Mayor Bloomberg, and many political leaders from the black community in Brooklyn, for the benefit of our community. I think it’s fair to say that he works l’shaim shomayim; if he would put an equal amount of time & effort into a private career (he is a licensed attorney) he would be able to make much more money and kovod with a lot less hassle.
I think we ought to give Simcha the benefit of the doubt, and lend him our support in his endorsements and decisions, instead of blasting and criticizing him. If the tzibur works as whole and refrains from mutiny-like nitpicking we’ll be much better off. (Of course, I probably wouldn’t say quite the same if he would be endorsing Hillary, but I still would maintain respect & awe for this gaon of an askan tzibury.)

  13. simcha felder tries to be controversial in order to attract attention to himself.
A vote for any of the Dem. candidates is a vote against the torah, and a vote for to’evah.
Lets vote for a person with genuine moral beliefs and a person who understands the economy best.
    MITT ROMNEY!!!

  14. Simcha, you’re a mere local politician, not a national Kingmaker!

By the Way, your mentor, Dov Hikind, endorsed Republicans many times, even though Dov is nominally a Democrat.

  15. To DAAS Torah

    what are you saying:

that you wouldn’t vote for Hilary! huh

voting for Obama is like voting for any liberal and the Torah isn’t machshiv people who are liberal.

as for your saying that Simcha Felder has been doing for the Tzibbur:

I will not dispute that but that doesnt mean that we should endorse a liberal candidate like Obama cause he says so.

    Rabosie:

vote for the most conservative candidate which pretty much follows the moral values of our Torah.

R’avigdor Miller: would of def. had voted for Mitt Romney.

  16. As an Englishman I am obviously no expert but Hagaon Harav Avigdor Miller Zt”l always said to vote for the candidate with the highest morals, this is not going to be Obama or Clinton! but must be a republican, who is this? Not Romney I guess. Is Mcain got any decent moral outlook?

  17. is there some reason why u yanks want a galuch’s galach like romney as president. What is wrong with a black man as president.
Personally I would vote for Nader if he ran and if you realized all that he did, you would too. Meanwhile dump the republicans they will never provide a proper safety net for you. If you calculate the 2000 Billion spent on Iraq and what that could ve done for the USA and healthcare and the hungry and the widows and orhans andso much more its astounding. How much will it take to get the US Social Seciurity to prived a a real standard – for every almana and yosom. Baruch Hashem I’m not and we should know from such things.

  18. #24 – illini07, if that really is your name…

I have it on good authority that while Barack Saddam Hussein Obama was campaigning at a small diner in Iowa he turned down a complimentary bagel! If that doesn’t wreak of anti-semitism, I don’t know what does.

  19. “What myopic vision . . . is it really smart to risk putting Obama, a muslim anti-semite, in the Oval Office, just to make a statement against Hillary? If you’re going to waste your vote, (and all the others who will follow you), at least vote Republican!” – Moshe Baltimore

“Especially for a Soineh Yisroel, Barack “Saddam ‘Osama Bin Laden’ Hussein Obama”!”
    – Gevalt613

While I am no supporter of Barak Obama, It really cheapens your cred. and opinion when you make statements like that.

    A- He is not Muslim.
B- Aside from “halacha He Biyadua She Eisov Soneh L’yaakov” how do u know he is a Soneh Yisroel? and if you were going on that Chazal then ALL the candidates are “Soneh Yisroels”

And to all those who are saying why doesnt he vote a republican candidate IN PRIMARYS YOU CAN ONLY VOTE FOR YOUR PARTY. And yes, Simcha Felder is a registered democrat.

Also, as an elected official as Mr. Felder is he should be more careful about what he says because it DOES sound like an endorsement for Obama, and yea, thats all we need! (though im not sure how many people actually listen to Felder) A little piece of advise if mr. Felder wants to get rid of Hillary he should let her win the primary so she becomes the candidate because almost any Republican candidate can defeat her.

  20. torah4me Mccain is ver moral hes an honest guy and hes NOT an anti semite!!
I dont no about romney but mccain is definitely better
who said waht how do u no who R’miller would vote for?
and every one esle who said vote romney ! no u cant say hu 2 vote for if both republicans are good!!!

  21. Does that standard apply in Eretz Yisroel as well? Do fruma Yidden vote for the candidates with the highest moral standards? To my recollection, I don’t think that has ever even been a consideration, much less a priority. Indeed I can recall at least one known noief who was strongly endorsed by all the Chareidi and Mizrachi parties.

  22. If you’re going to waste your vote, (and all the others who will follow you), at least vote Republican!

Excellent point, Moshe. Voting Republican would definitely be a waste of a vote.

  23. On MLK Day, in a black church, Barack Obama courageously spoke out against anti-Semitism in the black community.

Now frum Jews repay him by spouting baseless racist bile?

    Shame on them.

  24. Town Crier: you are right – I hadn’t thought of that until I saw the post by “jlq3d3”.

Still, why so many Frum Jews are still registered as Democrats is beyond me. The Democratic party has been hijacked by the far left, and we as religious Jews have the moral imperative to place our allegiances with the party that most represents our conservative values.

Go register as a Republican!! I have.

  25. #30 I think it is different in Eretz Yisroel, because the nation is essentially a jewish nation and they know that the ‘rabbis’ are the ones to look to for moral direction, so the gedolim are only concerned with the practical aspects, on the other hand, in America, the president is held in high esteem, so much so that he is the anchor for spirituality and direction in a large part and must be a man of high moral character.

  26. to all that said who should vote for whom:

McCain has been voting with the liberals all his life

Romney has voted mostly conservative on almost every issue

    so here you go

If you vote for McCain its a vote against torah values for he is liberal on almost all issues just check his voting record.

    If you vote Romney:

he has an almost clear cut record voting as a conservative. which is more alighned to what the Torah teaches us

  27. Notwithstanding all the punditry of the YW readers who seem to be all over the place on McCain vs Romney and Obama vs Hillary, I just want to point out a little known fact that was reported by Sen Lieberman to a reporter of the Jerusalem Post:

Just as the Torah states ושמרתם את משמרתי, that one is required to create “fences” around מצוות
in order to better observe them, Lieberman claims that McCain is the “strongest” candidate in support of protective “fences” around ארץ ישראל.

Please keep this in mind before pulling the lever for the three!

  28. First of all McCain is not a liberal. He differs with Republican party on some things (campaign finance, environmental stuff), but overall is conservative on abortion, taxes, spending, marriage, foreign policy, Israel….

And Romney is not bad either, but this is a vote not for President but for who you want to RUN for President. McCain actually has a chance of winning. Romney being nominated is like putting Hillary or Obama in the White House automatically.

  29. Hey- all the democrats are bad- if you a registered democrat, don’t vote in this primary. wait till the main election and vote republican.

  30. How can you Councilman Simcha Felder vote for Obama that one of his aids wants to recongnize the Hamas terror group and give them rights that they should never have?

  31. It is assur to vote democratic. Yet, some influential frum people support the dems. because they think they can get favors from them. This goes on in Lakewood every voting period.

Mccain is extremely pro-Israel. He is conservitive on most issues. There is nothing wrong with being democratic on some issues. He can win in November. Rommney is a question mark.

  32. I don’t mean to sound like a frummie – I’m just curious to know the halacha, is it permissible to speak negatively about Felder since he’s a politician or do the halochos of lashan hara apply since he’s a shomer mitzvos. Anyone know??

  33. Would Felder vote for Obama as US President ?
And what if he picks Condolezza Rice as his VP?
And what if he changes “USA” into “USAA” (UNITED STATES OF AFRO AMERICA)?

  34. brumfin – it’s completely forbidden, and frankly, I am APPALLED at the way people are speaking about a fellow Jew. I can’t believe that YW lets such comments go through. 🙁

yidlmitnfidel – try to hide your racism a bit. You sound like 1870s Americans.

  35. The problem with Felder is he does not realize that if Barak wins he is not president. Rather Jackson, Farrakan and Sharpton will be the Presidents.

As far as I am concerned what does Felder expect to gain for voting for Barak except a losed vote. Felder wakeup pal a vote for Barak is a vote against Jews. Also how do we truly know Barak is not Muslim?

    Think about it Felder.

  36. I was quoting a psak from the hisachdus harabanim of America and Canada. They say it is assur to vote for the dems. because they support to’eva. There are many signatures. One of them is Rabbi Belski.

  37. The reason so many jews are registered democrats in New York is because N.Y. is overwhelmingly democrat and most of the politicians that win are democrats. In order to be able to vote in the primarys and have any say with the politicians, the jews need to be registered democrats so their votes are important and count.

  38. I tried to clarify that they did not say democrats, but any candidate that supports to’eva.

My original confusion was because someone placed an add in a lakewood circular with their psak on top and his assertion that one cannot vote for the democrats in this election on the bottom.
