Lakewood Couple Ticketed For Speeding Enroute To Hospital Agrees To Pay Fine

A Lakewood man who was pulled over for speeding while taking his pregnant wife to the hospital will pay a fine to settle the ticket.

The lawyer for Abraham Steinfeld said Friday the man has pleaded guilty to a less severe traffic violation and will pay $92 in fines and court fees. The Asbury Park Press reports Steinfeld was pulled over for driving 78 mph in a 50 mph zone while rushing his wife to the hospital on Nov. 14.

Howell police released dashboard footage of the stop, showing Officer Anthony Marotto asking for the couple’s license and registration and offering to call them an ambulance.

The police department said they understand that it was a stressful situation, but “the officer acted appropriately.”

  1. Shame on the Lakewood askinim for not being able to get that cop in trouble, the lady gave birth a few minuets after arriving at the hospital, the footage of the video is a lie they skipped the middle part where he is sitting in his car for 15 minuets the cop put the lady and the baby in danger what a embarrassment that we weren’t able to stand up for them

  2. Do u know how many people lost their lives in such situations?
If it is an emergency people should call an ambulance.
I am not judging that couple. What i do have an issue is with publicizing such an article as if it was the right thing of that couple.
Imagine how many people rush every day for the same thing. Isn’t that putting peoples live in danger? Dont u remember many years ago the story in lakewood?
Please stop encouraging dangerous stuff and instead encourage “more safety & awarness”
Just to add, as an H member i had a similar situation and i told the husband to go with an ambulance and he refused and i told him to atleast go with a taxi and he refused. He was stopped twice on the way and ended up with an accident he was lucky that nothing happend bh. But pls use your brains before writing such articles and thing about the other side…

  3. The cop should be booted for not forcing them into an ambulance and for wasting precious time. The driver should get a medal for being totally irresponsible and for being the idiot of the day for speeding on a road which is known for deer crossings and bad lighting. The fact that his wife already had her water broken when they were stopped and still refused an ambulance shows even more how twisted they both were. He literally risked killing himself, his wife and baby. This driver should be forced to go back to driving school and also maybe go get a psychological evaluation.

  4. The actions of that “officer” were highly inappropriate. However the statement by Howell Police may be correct – for a HOWELL officer it was 100% appropriate.

  5. you have no right to risk other people’s lives–the cop was correct–why doesnt someone open a hospital in Lakewood for giving birth already???

  6. The cop stops a woman in labor for 15 minutes awhilet a great risk to the health of the woman and baby and while the woman is in pain and people are ok with that?! Sometimes things develop quickly, you think you have enough time and then you realize that you don’t. The cop should’ve opened his lights and sirens and help get them to the hospital quickly. Stop being so judgemental with the innocent couple. Ridiculous.

The cop offered and they both refused an ambulance knowing full well that her water broke. The only ones who are idiots are the couple themselves and perhaps you.
Yes the cops is an idiot too for not forcing her into an ambulance. There was a hatzoloh ambulance less then 5 minutes away, so please explain the logic why the husband refused to call an ambulance the minute they were stopped by the cop, just to save time.
