London: Police Nab Final Suspect In Massive Safety Deposit Box Heist, Including Many Jewish-Owned Boxes

The suspected final member of a gang that stole millions in jewelry from a London safe-deposit storehouse has been charged, almost three years after the audacious heist.

The vault held many safe deposit boxes belonging to Jewish people.

Michael Seed appeared in court Thursday and was ordered detained until his next hearing. He was arrested Tuesday at his home, 2 miles from the site of the April 2015 raid in the Hatton Garden jewelry district.

The gang of mostly elderly men drilled through a concrete vault wall and ransacked more than 70 safe-deposit boxes. Prosecutors say they stole cash, jewelry and gold worth more than 14 million pounds.

Six men have been convicted. The 57-year-old Seed is alleged to be a burglar known as “Basil,” the last of the gang who was still on the loose.
