Detroit: Assaults Continue On Orthodox Jewish Community

A string of assaults on members of the Fum community in Oak Park and Southfield in the past few months has prompted residents to meet with city officials to devise a plan to stop the attacks and form a neighborhood watch group.

Concerned residents, city officials and law enforcement met at a private residence in Oak Park on Thursday to discuss the recent attacks on three men in Southfield, near Oak Park, last weekend.

Police said they are not taking the attacks lightly because the incident mirrored assaults on three Orthodox men in Oak Park last summer, and one in February. In each case, people were assaulted while they walked in neighborhoods and parks during Shabbos.

Residents are in the preliminary stages of forming a neighborhood watch program so they can look out for each other.
