Fake News? Trump, Without Proof, Claims His Approval Rating Is Higher Than Lincoln’s

President Trump on Sunday repeated false claims that his poll numbers among Republican are higher than former President Lincoln.

It is unclear what poll Trump was citing.

A Gallup poll released earlier in July found that 90 percent of Republicans approved of Trump in June, which would make him one of the most popular modern presidents with his own party at this point in his first term.

However, former President George W. Bush had a higher approval rating with his own party shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks.

As well, polling data only dates back to the Truman era, and would thus not include ‘Honest Abe’.

The Gallup survey released last month found Trump’s overall approval rate was at 42 percent and his disapproval rate at 54 percent.

  1. It is very hard NOT to have a higher approval rating than Lincoln.

Not only did Lincoln win with the lowest popular vote of any president (in a four way race in which he was no group’s “second choice”) but a third of the country promptly took up arms against him (unlike the Democrats who mainly whine and rant a lot, but remain disinclined to start shooting). Given that a third of the country was actively waging a war against him throughout his term, and that he barely won re-election (in fact, through most the summer of 1864 he believed he would not be re-elected) in an election limited to the two-thirds that wasn’t shooting at him – having a higher approval rating than Lincoln is like saying a president had a longer term than William Henry Harrision (who got ill at his inaguration and promptly expired).

  2. And YWN should not decide something is “Fake News”. Usually you quote a left-wing news source for anti-Trump propaganda. I seriously doubt YWN staff have a strong enough background in American history to even understand that Lincoln was not very popular in his lifetime, and barely was elected, and only became popular after he was murdered.

  3. “Lincoln waged war against Jews”

What is that even supposed to mean? This same Lincoln is the one who overruled his own best General, Grant, even when Lincoln needed Grant the most (during the war) to spare the Jews that Grant himself ordered expelled. And you characterize that action as “Lincoln waged war against Jews”?

  4. Imbecile. The degenerate lying adulterer does not compare any where near Lincoln in terms of ratings of presidents now. Don’t forget little Donnie, you lost the popular vote.

  5. Rt – stop with your adulterer stupidity the adulterer in chief is your saviors husband! Get some meds for your libtard illness because its contagious – gadolhaborah caught it from you.

  6. rt and Putin – two of a kind, both needing some parental input. We’re coming up on Ellul here, people, let’s remember. (rt and Putin, if you’re not Jewish, check this out on Wikipedia.) I myself personally think Trump is a disaster as a human being and as a president, but let’s keep the language suitable for a family-based publication. Same goes for people like Putin who didn’t like Clinton. We’re all adults here, aren’t we? Let’s act like it. That means respecting each other even when we drastically disagree.

A thought: Are rt and Putin the same person, and just trolling us all? I wouldn’t be surprised. Neither of them is probably Joseph, because Joe writes literate English, whatever you may think of what he says in it.

  7. But Mr Pres Trump says in his tweet:
“There must be something wrong, please recheck that poll!”
So he does not believe the poll, notwithstanding Abe Lincoln’s supposed lack of popularity, it is just that Abe Lincoln has become an icon in US history.
Abe Lincoln preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened the federal government, and modernized the economy, according to WIKI.

  8. Akuperma, he didn’t say he’s more popular than Lincoln. He said his poll numbers among Republicans are higher. Given that there was no polling in the 19th century, it’s a statement indicative of Trump’s ignorance of history. This is the guy who thought Frederick Douglass was still alive.

Trump’s poll numbers among self-identified Republicans are quite high, but that’s partly because fewer voters are identifying themselves as Republicans.

  9. I think all the “ciles” in the comment section should respect Pres Trump for pro-life and recognizing Yerushalayim amongst many other things.
His opposition is mostly mindless, sadly.
Yes, he is quick to speak, but just to quickly show up his opponent while they slowly monopolize center stage while diverting the population from all things relevant and important.
