Network Solutions Censors Anti-Koran Film Site

fitna.jpgNetwork Solutions, the world’s largest domain registrar, announced today that for the first time ever, it is suspending public access to a web site, based on threats from the Muslim world of retaliation due to its content. The website, fitnathemovie.com, is the online home of the movie called Fitna, produced by Geert Wilders, a Dutch politician. First appearing in Dutch media in November, 2007, Fitna (which means disturbance in Arabic) highlights how the Koran urges modern Muslims to behave violently and anti-democratically based on those verses.

In a press release issued on March 22, 2008, the company says, “Network Solutions has suspended the fitnathemovie.com website while Network Solutions is investigating whether the site’s content is in violation of the Network Solutions Acceptable Use Policy. We have received a number of complaints regarding this site that are under investigation.” Sources familiar with the investigation say that this is the first time ever such a step has been taken, and that it comes directly on the heels of “serious” threats against the company should the content be published. Incidentally, the company recently released a memo to its employees, reminding them of personal and informational security procedures.

The Muslim reaction has been strong and swift. Taliban leader Zabihullah Mujahid has stressed that the group will increase their attacks on Dutch military and humanitarian peacekeepers in Afghanistan, if the film was ever aired. Wilders is the subject of a fatwa, allegedly associated with Al-Qaeda, calling upon Muslims to assassinate Wilders in the name of Islam. Syria’s Grand Mufti, leader Ahmad Badr al-Din, said that if Geert Wilders pictures the image of a burning Koran in his film, the Dutch people will be held responsible and possible attacks against Western public interests are not out of the question. Iran has threatened to review its diplomatic stance with The Netherlands, should the film be aired.

It also appears that Network Solutions is not the only entity worried of the repercussions of the release of this video. On March 6, 2008, Dutch officials raised the national threat level to substantial terroristic threat, because of the expected repercussions of the release of the video. The Dutch have made emergency evacuation plans available to all its consulates and embassies worldwide. It is also hardening security measurements around military installations abroad. The European Union has also alerted its diplomatic missions around the world to expect a reaction to the release of the film. In France, President Nicolas Sarkozy has declared that France will provide every necessary support to aid the Netherlands in the suppression of any Muslim violence that might be the result of the film. NATO has said it fears that the consequences of the Fitna film will affect the safety of troops in action in Afghanistan.

  1. Folks, this is only the beginning. The Dutch, the British, the French, etc. etc. are going to start reaping what they harvested. And it will happen here in the good ol’ US of A unless people wake up. The Democrats are definitely NOT the way to go in the election…..

  2. i don’t know where you guys got this picture from or who designed it, but the word fitnah is written backwards (in the arabic).

  3. What Network Solutions is doing is proving that terror works. We cannot and will not fall down the slippery slope of submitting to radical Islamic terror. Let’s start a fundraising campaign to have this movie publicized.

  4. Geshmack, If you look at the evidence it has already happened here in the U.S. many times over. One big example was the cover up and the inaction against the Arab terrorists after the murder of Rabbi Kahane in 1990. Youtube and Facebook are notorious for allowing Islamist terrorist propaganda on their network while censoring Jewish and non-Jewish anti Islamist media. Many of these companies and organizations are spineless, dhimi, and subservient to Islamic threats. Islam demands that the world submits to their rule and that is exactly what these groups are doing. It is getting worse every year.

  5. How dare you accuse muslims of behaving violently! If you continue to do so they will attack & terrorize all of western civilization. Peace to all…

  6. Network Solutions also hosts jewwatch.com, yet they refused to pull it when asked to some years back. I am sure they host a bunch of other anti semitic sites.
The only difference I see between jews and muslims, is that we complain. Muslims threaten.

  7. it isn’t a hard language to learn how to read. i learned how to read it in about a week. the real writing of that word should be فيتنه

  8. Did anyone ever realize that a major part of the European foreign policy is based on cowardness &
    not on business interests?

  9. #8 We threaten also – as in Olmert threatening to retaliate in Gaza . . . Big Deal. The Arabs don’t just threaten, they carry them out!

  10. Network Solutions has a blog – where they say they want to hear from customers about how they are doing –
    http://solutionsarepower.com/contact-solutions-are-power-blog/

There is also the email on that page for their attorney – perhaps, courteous, well thought out letters should be sent to them – perhaps you could get the word out and they would be inundated with notes – and they would see that selective censorship is silly – and that indeed they should take down other offensive sites as well –
    Cheers!

  11. rebshalom (#6) do you think ted kennedy is rich enough to vote republican? what about john kerry? george soros? how about bill and hillary clinton? what does being rich enough have to do with voting republican? nonsense!

  12. to yidlmitnfidel:

europoean foreign policy IS BASED on business interests.

they regularly use their “cia” to spy for their business interests (thats why the us – cia will not work with france, etc cia) while the us cia will NOT do spying for us business interests (and will NOT disclose in case they come across info, which they often do). just like us state dept will not assist us business interests, or us citizen interest. they say spying / advocating for their own country is not “gentlemanly”, is not diplomatic”.

  13. I agree, those who host websites with Network Solutions should move to other hosting companies.
All domains registered with Network Solutions should be moved to another registrar. I am moving mine to hydrogenhosting.com
