With assistance from the Jewish community of Perm and Chief Rabbi of Izhevsk Mikhael Urin, the Chief Rabbinate of Russia has awarded the ‘Veretshaginskiy’ Factory permission and certification to produce kosher flour and other grains. This is the only organization in Russia that has been awarded the right to independently produce these products, providing residents of Russia with an alternative to purchasing imports from Israel.
“This took a lot of effort on our part to organize this,” explained entrepreneur Stanislav Israelov. “The process took ten months. In that time, we went through all the necessary stages for receiving certification”. In the end, two contracts were signed with the Chief Rabbinate of Russia and the ‘Veretshaginskiy’ Factory.
Established in 1929, the ‘Veretshaginskiy’ Factory has upgraded its equipment and machinery many times. Today, it is equipped with state-of-the-art production technologies and transport means. This company’s products have won numerous prizes at food exhibitions, famous for producing ecologically natural products that are without any additives.
“For preparation of the kosher products, a separate zone has been set aside in the factory,” commented Stanislav Israelov. “To change the parameters, structures, technology of a state enterprise was not exactly easy. Thank G-d that it all worked out”. To facilitate this process, company leaders also attended several lectures on kosher technologies. With great anticipation, company leaders are awaiting the first production line to be completed.
“The demand for kosher products is growing with every passing day,” explains Chief Rabbi of Perm Zalman Deutch, a Lubavitch Shliach who leads an FJC member community there. “Kashrut has become a new type of style; however, it is important to uphold standards and procedures. The challenge now is to produce a good quantity of items that are of good quality.”
