Update on Emunah Chevron Matzot

home_eng_61.jpgThe Chief Rabbinate of Israel today, April 13th, released another update (number 16) dealing with two items, one being the Emunah Chevron matzot.

Last week, YWN reported that the matzot did not have the hidur supervision of Rav Dov Lior as advertised, based on the Rabbinate’s report.

YWN is now happy to provide a timely update, that the Chief Rabbinate’s report of today clarifies there was a “misunderstanding” and Rav Lior has once again placed his supervision on the matzot, informing consumers they may buy them and rest assured they are indeed mehadrin matzot for Pesach.

The original Hebrew text notification from the Chief Rabbinate may be viewed on the Jerusalem Kosher News website directly by clicking HERE.

  1. I assume that YW is not endorsing the matzos, just reporting the facts. Everyone should ask their own Rav whether or not they should buy matzos under Rav Lior’s supervision.

  2. I assume that PM is not rejecting the matzos, just reporting the facts. Everyone should ask their own Rav whether or not they should buy matzos under PM’s rabbi’s supervision.

  3. PM Since when does YW endorse any particular brand of matzvoh? (this or any), are you giving halachik advise reminding all to check their food items with a Rav? Do you work in hashgacha and know Rav Lior’s products? or just talk for the sake of talk….

  4. First of all I quote “they may buy them and rest assured they are indeed mehadrin matzot for Pesach”. Secondly, I am a Rav who gives halachik advice to many people, and I have significant experience in kashrus.

  5. “they may buy them and rest assured they are indeed mehadrin matzot for Pesach”
That is quoted by the Chief Rabbinate, not by YWN’s which hopefully will not start ‘mishing’ in kashrus.

  6. PM, you are right. While that statement, “they may ….for Pesach” sounds like some endorsement, it is only the remark of Rabbi Lior.

Also, since MANY rabbonim have a problem with ANY machine matzah, no matter what the hashgacha is, you are correct, in your very polite and tactful way, of reminding people to check with their rov.

The Heilige Satmar Rov, ZY”U, said that “All machine matzos are chometz gomur!” despite his respect for Rov Yonasan Steif, Z”L. He said that the machine mentioned by the Chasam Sofer is NOT the modern machines used to make matzah. The ONLY heter he gave relating to machine matzahs is that he said there was no knass of Chometz SheOvar Olav HaPesach on them, if the storekeeper believed them to be kosher l’pesach.

So, obviously, the range of opinions is very wide, from the ones who agree with the Satmar Rov and others and say machine matzos are chometz Gomur, to other learned rabbonim who say you may eat them L’Chatchila, and with those who say they are kosher but you man not be yotzei the mitzvah of matza at the seder, etc.

So, you are right to remind people to check with THEIR rov and not take the above comment as halacha. No one should take ANY opinion on any blog as halacha. Not mine, not that of any poster…. not even when they claim to be quoting a posek. That’s right, not even my quotes of the Satmar Rov. (smile)

  7. PM & DM There has been a century long makloches bt hand made & machine made matzohs. Chashuva rabbanim standing on both sides on the fence, (“with those who say they are kosher but you may not be yotzei the mitzvah of matza at the seder”!!!!!-this pasok I have never heard), with abundant of background material and hashgafa lining every dayah.
It would be laughable to imagine that there are readers/commenters that take any of these posts &/or articles for halacha min’shamayim.
