A Toronto Yeshiva that was supposed to reopen is now staying closed indefinitely.

  1. Why is this not a surprise. This summer hundreds of Toronto Jews have been travelling back and forth to Lakewood and Monsey to attend simchas and they bring Covid back with them. Regrettably, many of those are teachers at the schools. I think it is completely irresponsible of them: look at all the Torah that is mevatil, not to mention the secular education. Now the Board of Health has been called in. This is hardly a kiddush Hashem.

  2. Any institution where someone tests positive should only close temporarily until another test can be done using a different lab to make sure that it’s not a false positive.
Unfortunately there have been too many false positives resulting in major losses for no reason. Two famous cases are the two false positives experienced by the NY Mets which resulting in suspension of four games and the 77 false positives by the NFL. Let’s not even discuss Florida with its thousands of false positives including the people who were never tested but received positive results!

  3. thornhillyid, let’s go with your thoughts:

You think it was wrong for any Toronto Jew to travel to Lakewood or Monsey, even for parents to attend the wedding of their children.

You think it is irresponsible for Toronto teachers to visit their elderly parents living in Lakewood or Monsey, whom they haven’t seen in 6 months.

You claim that “many” of these “hundreds” of these travelling Toronto Jews are teachers. I assume you took a poll to count the “hundreds” (is that 2 hundred or 900?!) and got your numbers concluding that “many” (care to share how many is “many”) were teachers?!

So you are targeting teachers! They must not travel! Put extra restrictions of them! After all, they are teachers. And “completely irresponsible” too! Frightening the thought of them being daily responsible for a class of students!

    Shame on you!

  4. @thorny Lakewood was actually virus free for a while until people from Toronto and other out of town cities brought it back. The uptick just started again very recently in Lakewood. In short, I’m in agreement with you… they should not have come here.

  5. why couldnt those 2 rebbes stay home and open school – remember school didnt start yet.. so even if a rebbe setup his class … scrub it down way over the top who is guiding them
there will always be some positives somwhere let that rebbe or student stay home

  6. @thornhillyid as a matter of fact, the two people who tested positive did not travel to Lakewood or anywhere out of the country.
@meir G it is a teacher and a senior hanhallah member, who was in contact with a number of other staff members. They are waiting for those other staff members to receive test results before they reopen. The hope was tomorrow, but now looking more like Thursday, be”h.

  7. Ah Thornhill! I didn’t realize!

Some from that Ir Hanidachas are like thorns in the side of chareidim.

Stick to the MO hashkofos of that community without attacks on the old fashioned yidden of Old Toronto.

Funny that you claim oy vey bittul Torah, as if it matters to you. All you care is to put down Torah true yidden that haven’t watered down their yiddishkeit and wear black hats instead of knitted yarmalkas.
