NYC Identity Theft Ring Leader Sentenced

court hammer4.jpgA New York City man who admitted his role in a large scale identity theft and counterfeiting ring has been sentenced to four to 12 years in prison.

Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau says De-Xiang Huang was sentenced in Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday. He pleaded guilty to grand larceny and other charges last month.

Huang was among 13 defendants indicted in April in the $3 million operation, which ran between November 2005 and April 2007. The DA says stolen credit card information was used to create high quality counterfeit cards embossed with fake names. The cards were used to buy high-end merchandise that was then resold.

The DA says Huang has forfeited more than $163,000 in cash, Rolex watches and other luxury items purchased with the counterfeit cards.
