PHOTOS – Waterbury Shoprite Goes Kosher in Many Ways

YW-Wtrbry Shoprite-020.jpg(PHOTO LINKS AT END OF ARTICLE) When Shoprite Of Waterbury renovated an old supermarket this past summer, they brought kosher to a whole new level in Waterbury. They made a strictly kosher bakery in one section of the store. The bakery is under the supervision of the Vaad Hakashrus of Greater Waterbury. This bakery produces fresh delicious bagels every day except Shabbos. The kosher bakery also has a selection of pastries and breads, including tasty challah. In addition, the store carries a full line of heimesh grocery products. The kosher dairy section consists of many fresh Cholov Yisroel products. There is also an excellent selection of meats including a fresh deli section.

The store has a large dining area. The management installed a sink with a cup for washing. This washing station is convenient for someone traveling through who has just come for a bagel or deli sandwich.

One very unique aspect of the store are the checkout aisles. Not one aisle in the store has any magazines. In fact there aren’t any magazines in the store at all. This store  is one of the only supermarkets in the country to be magazine free. This is a tremendous plus for a frum family. The Jewish community at large applauds Shoprite’s efforts to make kosher shopping enjoyable.

The store is located at 943 Wolcott Street in Waterbury. It is conveniently located off of I- 84. It is one of the main corridors in the Northeast and it is midway between New York and Boston.
