Belgium has deployed soldiers to major cities to reinforce security at Jewish sites following a series of antisemitic attacks.

Defense Minister Theo Francken announced that troops are being sent to Brussels and Antwerp, with plans to expand to Liege.

The deployment, coordinated with federal police, will focus on protecting synagogues, schools, and other Jewish institutions.

The move comes after an explosion at a synagogue in Liege, which authorities described as antisemitic, as well as related incidents in neighboring Netherlands, including arson at a synagogue in Rotterdam and an explosion at a Jewish school in Amsterdam.

Officials say the increased security is necessary amid growing concerns over threats to Jewish communities, particularly in light of the ongoing war involving the U.S., Israel, and Iran.
