PHOTOS: Chaverim Of Queens 1 Year Anniversary

coq.jpgPHOTO LINK BELOW: Chaverim of Queens operates on one word: CHESED!

The organization which started one year ago had a lot to celebrate on their first year anniversary. The organization started with just ten members and an average of 2 calls a day. Now, just one short year later, Chaverim of Queens has seen its call volume jump to ten times that amount and now has 30 active volunteers. Chaverim of Queens has responded to over 1,000 calls in their first year. The organization  was founded in the memory of the legendary Baal Chesed, Mr. Jack Friedman, as an organization to extend his legacy of helping all that need it.

And the organization certainly lives up to the community’s expectations as evidenced by  the “thank you” notes which they receive on a daily basis.

In general the members of Chaverim respond to flat tires, car lockouts, house lockouts, cars out of gas, and dead batteries requiring a boost. Some of the more unique calls that Chaverim has responded to, include: search for missing persons, person stuck in elevator, child(ren) locked in car, car stuck in ice, keys dropped in sewer and even driving a fellow Jew home, right after him getting into a car accident – ten minutes before shabbos!

The coordinators, when contacted, requested that when printing this article we say a special Thank you to the Friedman, Fried, and Mermelstein families of Queens for their continuous support of the organization. Of course a special Thank you has to be given to the volunteers as well who drop what they’re doing, whether it’s late at night, early in the morning, or in the freezing cold, to go out and provide assistance to fellow yidden.

Chaverim of Queens Inc. is still accepting applications for new members. To request an application please send an e-mail to [email protected]
