Levaya of Hagon Rav Yitzchok Karpf ZATZAL

candle95.gifYWN regrets to inform you of the Petira of Hagon Rav Yitzchok Karpf ZATZAL, the Rosh Yeshiva in Bais Shraga of Monsey. He was the Rosh Yeshiva for decades, and was formerly a Magid Shiur in Yeshiva Torah Vodaas. He was also a son-in-law of Hagon Rav Shraga Feivel Mendelowitz ZATZAL until his Rebbitzen was Niftar many years ago. He had since remarried, and leaves behind an Almanah.

He was approximately 90-years-old.

The Levaya will take place tonight (Tuesday) in the Yeshiva at 10:00PM located at 28 Saddle River Road in Monsey, NY.

  1. We have lost a Tsadik Yisod Olam!

Although I never had a personal shachis with him, Rabbi Karp had made a lasting lifetime tremendous impression on me, of what it means to be a true Tsadik.

Boruch Dayan Emes. May his neshama rest in peace with all the great tsadikim from previous generations.

  2. baruch dayan haemes, I’ve spent two years in camp Ohr Shraga and can attest that he was a tzadik yesod olam

  3. He was my rebbe for the summer in Camp Ohr Shraga.

He was an ehrliche yid in the true sense of the word, and talmid of R’ Shlomo Heiman.

An emmeseh yid that led his life in the way that yid is suspposed to.

  4. I didnt know R’ Karp personally however i once got a bracha from him and it was mikoyim right away. A big loss for all of klal yisroel BARUCH DAYAN EMES

What an amazing man to be with, I had the zechus to be with him for many years he really showed me an all his thousands of talmidim what it means pashtus is gadlus.
It should be a Meylitz Yosher for Mesivta Beis Shraga and for all his talmidim.

  6. Rav Karpf was an ish anav ad me’od. May we share in the arrival of Moshiach Tzidkainu, who will redeem us from ourselves.

  8. RAV KARP ZT’L WAS MY REBBE IN MTV OVER 55 YEARS AGO. I STILL REMEMBER HIM FONDLY. HE HAD GREAT HASHPAAH ON ME AND ALL OF US IN RUCHNIUS. HIS SHIURIM WERE WONDERFUL AND CLEAR. I THINK THAT SUBCONSCIOUSLY HE HAD A GREAT INFLUENCE ON MY ULTIMATE CHOICE OF BECOMING A RAV AND YESHIVA H.S. REBBEH. YEHI ZICHRO BARUCH.
    YITZCHAK M GOODMAN

  9. I was in Rav Karpf class during the last year that he taught full-time. Besides, concurring about everything that was said above, I would like to add some information that I remember about the niftar that some may find interesting:
1 – He came from a family of abject poverty. His family lived in the tenement houses and were often threatened with eviction. Very often he would come home to see the personal belongings of his unfortunate neighbors on the street. The threat of eviction was real and something that he lived and breathed, the pressure was definitely there for him to go to work and help pay the bills. His mother would remove the eviction notices so he shouldn’t be deterred from his learning.
He attended RSK (Rabbi Shlomo Kluger) the Galcian Yeshiva on the East Side for Elementary School. Most children attended yeshiva thru the eighth grade then went to public High School. Rabbi Yankele Flansgaber (sic) the legendary Mechanach said to him you Karpf are going to Torah Voda’ath.
In Torah Voda’ath he attended the shiur of the various Rabbeim of the time (I believe Rav Pam was his 9th grade Rebbe, but am not sure.)
He was most influenced by R’ Shraga Feivel Mendelovitz of the legendary Menahel and later Rav Sholo Heiman ZT”L who he was a talmid muvhok of.
Of all of the Achronim, he had a special relationship with Rebbi Akiva Eiger. How he loved to explain Reb Akiva Eiger! He would make sure that everyone understood Rebbi Akiva Eiger’s Kushyoh before expounding on the answer.

He had great difficulty in his life – I mentioned the abject poverty in his youth. His first wife, A”H was in poor health throughout most of her life. His sister, brother-in-law, and child were killed when the fire went out on the stove during a Leyl-Shabbos and were killed by the gas, r””l.

He had a very strong Kesher with Harav Yaakov Kamenetsky ZT”L and was a close personal friend of Horav N’ Quinn ZT”L, the Menahel Of Yeshiva Torah Voda’ath.

He should be a Maylitz Yosher for the entire Klal Yisroel.

  10. Baruch Dayan Haemes. I was zoche at one point to learn Bechavrusah with him (obviously Rebbi / Talmid… but still one on one) for a summer or two in Ohr Shraga. I recall hearing that Rav Yakov Kaminetsky zt”l had said about him that were it not for his extreme Tzarus his whole life he would be one of the recognized Gedolei Hador. There should be a Nechama for his Rebbitzen Leah, Shetichya. She was my Pre-1A teacher and her interaction with him was an inspiring thing to see.
