FELDER: Announce Parking Changes in Advance

24.jpgThe New York City Council Transportation Committee, chaired by Councilman John Liu (D-Queens), held a hearing on legislation introduced by Councilman Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn) that would notify the community of any changes in parking restrictions.

Currently, any new parking restrictions can be changed without any prior notification of the changes in affected communities, which can result in unfair parking tickets. This bill would ensure that any new changes are posted and put online and clearly explain the change in parking restrictions at least one week before those changes go into effect.

“It is unreasonable for the City to impose new regulations and restrictions without first letting the public know about the changes” said Councilman Felder. “Simple notification would ensure that drivers park safely and would reduce the number of unfair parking tickets.”

  1. Simcha again has a valid point. The City is in the process of changing all Brooklyn Parking meters to 20 minutes for a quarter rather than for a half hour. Because there was no notice and people assume that they’re getting 30 minutes the traffic agents are having a field day. A sticker should have been placed on each meter advising of the change.

  2. I LIVE IN JERSEY AND LAST SUMMER I GOT A TICKET IN FRONT OF THE KOLLEL STORE ON 39TH STREET BETWEEN 13 & 14 AVE. I ALWAYS PARKED IN FRONT OF THE STORE WHEN I FOUND A SPOT AND ON THAT DAY I FOUND A SPOT AND I PARKED 5 MINUTES INTO MY SHOPPING I HEARD ON THE LOUD SPEAKER, ANYONE PARKED IN FRONT OF THE STORE, MOVE YOU CAR THEY ARE GIVING OUT TICKETS I GO OUT TO SEE AND I WAS TICKETED AND THE AGENT WAS THERE I ASKED HIM WHY HE POINTED OUT THE NO PARKING SIGN 30FT HIGH ON THE POLE. I TOLD HIM WHEN DID THAT HAPEN HE SAID LAST WEEK. I PAID IT AND NOW I DON’T COME TO BROOKLYN ANYMORE. I SHOP IN LAKEWOOD.
