Ignoring White House Request, Paterson Rants Again

paw1.jpgDespite being asked by the Obama administration to say no more, Gov. David Paterson continued his rant about race, government and the media. The governor made more controversial comments, allegedly saying people are uncomfortable with black politicians in power.

Less than 24 hours after the White House asked him not to play the race card, Paterson spent nearly an hour complaining to political blogger Gerson Borrero, and intentionally or not, he threw President Obama into the mess again.

“Part of what I feel,” he said, “is that one very successful minority is permissible; but when you see too many success stories, then some people get nervous.”

Borrero had this to say about his 40 minute chat with the governor: “He’s been a punching bag for 17 months and finally he’s fed up with it.”

Paterson told Borrero he feels he’s the victim of racial stereotyping, not getting credit for his accomplishments because he’s black.

“It seems I have to work twice as hard as others,” he said.

He also made it clear he intends to fight to keep his job as governor, and Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, who leads Paterson in recent polls, should be award of that.

“He’s ready for a brawl. He’s ready to demonstrate that he’s from Harlem, that he’s from El Barrio, the hood. He certainly didn’t sound like a chump to me,” said Borrero. “He’s willing to take his lumps, but he’s gonna speak his mind on the issues.”

Pundits say the governor’s low popularity is the result of his actions, not his race.

“Right now I think it’s a very hard case to make that David Paterson’s 20-something percent approval rating, and in fact, his lower approval than disapproval rating even among African American votes in this state is the product of racism,” said David Birdsell of Baruch College.

Now that the governor has played the race card, the big question is will it help him or hurt him, and will the next set of polls show an uptick in his popularity.

  1. This is pathetic. In his view, a successful minority is such merely by fact of arrival, in Paterson’s case accidentally, at a high station. His performance and competency should be overlooked. This is where affirmative action has led. Cute little figurines up on a shelf for the world to see, irrespective of their utter uselessness, just to affirm America’s benign, though late in coming, enlightenment. By criticizing Paterson or Obama, America is tracking mud into its museum of tolerance. That is the minority mindset. I don’t recall ever hearing a successful Jew who met criticism speak like this.

  2. Mr. Governor, you are absolutely right. I am uncomfortable with the current black politicians in power. All of them are liberals!

Will somebody please stop up the Governor’s mouth with a pacifier instead of him stoking the racist flames of controversy?

  3. Keep talking governor because the more you flap youe gums, the more you cause people to think maybe certain people aren’t really ready for prime time yet.

  4. thank you Flatbush bubby-anyone of us that has any morals or values left are not voting for the black politicians-as you said NOT because of race but because of their horrible liberal agenda, no thanks to socialized healthcare, lateterm abortion and kissing up to terrorists
