U.S. District Chief Judge Linda Reade Friday denied Sholom Rubashkin’s request he be let out of bail prior to his sentencing.
Reade said Rubashkin’s actions while he was free on bail, coupled with the jury’s verdict prove to be “powerful incentives” for him to flee. Rubashkin was arrested in November 2008 after authorities say he told employees to destroy financial documents related to a bank fraud scheme.
Reade acknowledged Rubashkin had wide support from the community, especially in Postville’s Jewish community, that he made a special effort to comply with his bail conditions and that he is committed to his family. But, she said, it wasn’t convincing enough to grant his release.
Meanwhile, his attorneys have asked that Rubashkin be aquitted or given a new trial. In a separate motion filed Thursday, Rubashkin’s attorneys argued there wasn’t enough evidence for a conviction.
Rubashkin is facing up to 1,255 years in prison. He is being held at the Woodbury County Jail pending sentencing.

I agree with “Give Me a Break” — please, let them run after terrorists the way they run after Rubashkin. I’m not saying he’s innocent, but come on!!!!!! The punishment should fit the crime. Our government is so worried about being “politically correct” which is why we are such easy targets for terrorists. I don’t think Rubashkin is going to blow anyone away or skip town.

150 or 1,255 years in prison, what’s the nafka mina? He’s 50 years old now. A twenty or thirty year sentence is the end of the story for him.

The bottom line is, a women judge always reacts harsher. The same goes for women police. They always have to show that they will not let off anyone easy to prove that they are not weak. The judge in the OJ case was a male one and look what happened there!

# 12, I actually do have personal claims to back it up. The last 2 times I was in a car that got pulled over by a female officer, the driver rcieved a ticket. There was no compromise. The exact opposite has happened when the officer was male.
