A two-alarm fire at Macy’s in Midtown has led to an evacuation of the store, according to the fire department.
Fire officials say the fire which started at approximately 4:00PM has been knocked down, but there remains a heavy smoke condition on site. No injuries were�reported.
Hundreds of customers were evacuated from the flagship Macy’s in Herald Square after an escalator fire broke out between the third and fourth floors.
The fire broke out shortly after 4 p.m. on one of the busiest shopping days of the holiday season.
As of 5:30PM the fire was placed under control, and Macy’s employees were being allowed back into the building to clean up water damage & prepare the store for reopening to customers.
