Haifa Chief Rabbi Shar Yashuv Cohen Shlita will be leading a rabbinical delegation to a Rome Conference, where they will meet with Church leaders. One of the topics on their agenda is the Church’s plans for the beatification of Pope Pius XII.
Rav Cohen explains the Church insists the pope worked behind the scenes and therefore, his actions are not recorded in history, with the Church insisting he saved thousands of Jews during the war. Rav Cohen is calling on the Vatican to open its archives and show proof to back their statement.
The rabbis explain the main purpose of their trip is to strengthen the local Jewish community, adding there is a growing bal tshuva movement and a yeshiva preparing rabbonim and dayanim, and they are going to give them a ‘chizuk’, which Rav Cohen explains is extremely important.
Rav Cohen also address missionary work, explaining the Vatican has committed to halt all missionary activities, and he remains in constant touch with Yad L’Achim on this matter, stating “the most dangerous of the Christians today are the Protestants, who are busy with missionary work against us”. Rav Cohen made his remarks in a Kol Chai Radio interview on Tuesday afternoon.

Rabbi Cohen has been meeting with church leaders for years. He is correct regarding missionaries; the Catholic Church has renounced targeting Jews for coversions while some Protestant groups spend millions on such efforts.
