Obama’s Poll Numbers Take Another Dive

President Obama’s job approval rating has taken another dive, putting him underwater for the first time in the latest Marist poll.

Just 44% of the country approve of the work Obama is doing, while 47% don’t like what they see.

The tough reviews come as Americans still find the commander in chief likable, with 50% rating him favorably, and 44% viewing him negatively.

And they still blame former President George W. Bush for the dismal economy.

Only 29% of voters say the poor economy is Obama’s fault; 62% agree that Bush left the problem on Obama’s desk.

“With this part of voters’ mind-set, it’s no wonder the White House would like to make 2010 a choice between President Obama and past GOP policies,” said Lee Miringoff, director of The Marist Institute for Public Opinion.

Still, people think Obama’s policies are not change they can believe in.

Forty-seven percent of voters say Obama has not lived up to their expectations, with just 42% saying he has.

A narrow plurality – 38% – think Obama’s change has been bad, and 37% think it’s been good.

  1. Mr. President, you keep on doing what you are doing. Keep on waging war with the private sector. Keep on demonizing Israel. Keep on trying to make New York City vulnerable to attack. You keep on trying to please your mentor, Wiiliam Ayers and the rest of the radical, left-wing thugs that are your associates and you can just kiss Democratic majorities in both houses of Congress good-bye.

You sir are becoming more and more a one termer. So be it!

the way how things are going , soon 62% of the people will be saying it is Obama’s fault .

  3. #3 this just shows how racist america is; they dont want to recognize the messiah bec. he’s black.

    what are you smoking today

  4. The very day this poll was released, the Gallup poll reported that Obama’s approval was up to 50% overall. And Research 2000 still has him at 56% approval. And the Marist poll still had Obama defeating Palin in 2012 by 15 points — double his margin against McCain.

A comparison of the poll results by party is interesting:

    Gallup Marist R2K
    Dem 83 81 90
    Ind 46 29 51
    Rep 15 15 6

The Marist poll seems to be getting different Independents.

Meanwhile, the Rasmussen and R2K polls also surveyed favorability of congressional leaders:

    Rasmussen R2K
    Pelosi 35 40
    Reid 31 26
    McConnell 28 20
    Boehner 24 20

Democrats aren’t popular, but Republicans are even less popular.

  5. Sickandtired,

As an American, I hope we succeed. However the way we will SUCCEED is only when Obama fails. Obama “succeeding” means we are no different than the typical socialist European state.

Its the truth and its a shame you cant handle the truth!

I don’t know how old you were but when I was a kid we didn’t hope the president succeeded when we didn’t agree with his agenda. I am in my early 40s and I specifically recall people not wanting Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush41, Clinton, and Bush43 to succeed.

That being said, I will hope Obama succeeds in the way all the Dems hoped Pres Bush succeeded. HA!
