Gov. Paterson Reportedly Seeking Legal Advice

Governor David Paterson remains under fire this weekend, and though he has said he has no plans on stepping down, it seems he’s planning a legal defense.

The governor is said to be examining his legal options this weekend following a series of scandals that threaten his administration.

Defense attorney Ron Kuby is paying close attention to the governor’s legal problems.

“Every day, there is a new alleged revelation,” Kuby said.

Paterson, his staff and state police officials could face charges of witness tampering or obstructing justice stemming from the handling of a domestic violence case involving one of the governor’s top aides.

The Governor is also accused of lying about how he obtained Yankees World Series tickets.

The controversies have already prompted several high-level resignations.

Kuby said as Paterson and others close to him are questioned in the coming days and weeks, they need to be truthful and careful with what they say.

“I’d advise the Governor to speak the truth, to come out fighting,” Kuby said.

As more becomes known about the allegations, the scandals grow and the public’s support of Governor Paterson appears to erode.

Former Mayor Ed Koch predicts Paterson will end his term early.

“There is no question he will get out, and the longer he stays in, the greater his problem getting out,” Koch said.

With the full story of the administration’s involvement still untold, there are too many questions for anyone to predict which way this will go.

Top Democrats concede privately that Paterson’s departure seems imminent, given the multiple scandals surrounding him.

“I see that he’s hired an attorney, which is his right, and he should have done it a long time ago to keep him out of trouble,” former NYC Mayor Ed Koch said.

  1. The rarest species is a politician who has no bagman. Watch any public official long enough and you will see the bagman making his delivery. There is no better reason to seek public office than having the opportunity to gather hundreds or many time millions in tax free cash. It would be accurate to imagine over a trillion dollars annually being transported by bagmen in the US alone. Very rarely is this method of corruption uncovered. The bagman just transports the cash and never has any knowledge of the deal.
