Prosecutors Request 25 Years For Rubashkin

Prosecutors have asked U.S. District Court Judge Linda Reade to sentence R’ Sholom Mordechai ben Rivka Rubashkin to 25 years in prison, less than the life sentence they have said they were entitled to request.

Prosecutors had added up the charges in pre-sentencing documents and the total came to a life sentence. But Assistant U.S. Attorney Pete Deegan said in court that the government would seek 25 years.

Sholom Rubashkin gave a tearful speech Thursday at the end of his sentencing hearing.

Judge Linda Reade says she’ll issue a ruling on May 27.

  1. Lo Aleinu what golus we are in.
Nebach the court probably had the verdict written up before listening to the defense.
In short Rubashkin is a Jew and built up no mans land to something.
However, we don’t hear any of the non Jews whom he helped or employed speaking up in his defense.
The same happened to a person who was in the news and will beging his sentence next week. The judge was known to openly say that he had to get after that Jew.
Yidden we have to remember we are in Golus and we have to try to help each other.

  2. “25 years in prison, less than the life sentence”

I think for all practical purposes, to sentence a 51 year old man in prison for 25 years, is essentially a life sentence. This is still very sad.

  3. The prosecutors knew they did not have anything truly worth a life sentence.

So the fugure if they ask for 25 years it is still extremly excessive but they figure they might get it since they lie about how lenient they supposedly were, in not asking for life.

This is a total scam and bogus case for anything more then time served, and a possible year or two probation, at the most.

  4. It is as deceiving is calling his actions fraud of millions, implying robbery, while it was actualy borrowed. 25 years is the same as life. They want to sound as if they came down, but they didn’t.

  5. I don’t get it. Obama calls the new Arizona law misguided There is an old Arizona law that business hiring illegal immigrant should have their licenses revoked. Everyone in Washington is claiming that law is too harsh. One state court ruled that you cannot penalize a business for hiring them. Yet a Jew in Iowa gets raided for it, gets shut down, causes him to go bad on his loan and they want to put him away for life! Somebody please explain!

  6. There is such a thing as going for appeal to STRASSBOURG France if a person feels he was not judged fairly.
I definitly think IT HAS TO BE DONE!!!!!!
There are no laws in any European country where you are put in jail for life for money matters.
There are plenty of jewish lawyers who could gather in Europe and put pressure on the USA

The R. SHEL OILOM should give the right Eizess

    Git Shabbess from Switzerland

  7. I agree with Haleivi and PachadYitzchakFan. By the time he comes out of of prison he’ll be 76 years old. What about Madoff? He screwed everyone but he gets life on parol. Why? He did worse then Rabashkin. I feel for the family. He won’t be able to see his kids and walk them to the chuppah etc. I hope they will at least let him go home to see his family but I doubt that will happen since they claim he is a flight risk.

Yes of course there is – providing the original case involved citizens of the 27 countries making up the European Union.

Since when has Iowa (or the United States for that matter) been a member of the European Union?

HaShem preserve us from well-meaning idiots.
