Steel Columns Returning To WTC Site

Two steel columns taken from the wreckage after the September 11th terrorist attacks are headed back to the World Trade Center site today.

They are being installed this afternoon at the entrance to the September 11th Memorial and Museum.

Salvaged from the rubble after the attacks, each column measures 70 feet and weighs 50 tons. They made up the facade at the north tower’s entrance.

The installation comes the same day officials are set to give a big update on progress at the site.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Governor David Paterson are among those expected to give updates on construction, ahead of Saturday’s ninth anniversary of the attacks.
