Family Evicted From Meah Shearim Building

Police on Wednesday evicted a chareidi family living in an illegal structure in Jerusalem’s Meah Shearim neighborhood. A large force was on hand for a relatively simple eviction since police are well-aware of past experiences in which a small force was quickly surrounded by angry neighborhood residents. The father became extremely agitated and eventually collapsed. He was transported to an area hospital. There is no update on his condition.

The eviction was carried out without  major incident. The family explained they have been living there for a long time, and in response to allegations that the structure is illegal, they questioned why similar actions are not carried out in the predominately Arab areas of the eastern capital.

In response to the report, a police spokesman explained that police accompanied city inspectors responsible for carrying out the eviction and demolition orders to protect them.
