Tuba el-Zangaria: Protestors Use Live Gunfire Against Police

Police in the northern community of Tuba el-Zangaria, near Rosh HaNikra, remain on heightened alert Tuesday morning, 6 Tishrei, following the predawn arson attack against a mosque on Monday morning.

Police during the night confronted village youths, who tried numerous times to place burning tires in the roadway to block the access road of a nearby kibbutz. Police used riot control adjuncts to distance rioters, keeping the road open.

Arab youths during the night targeted a number of buildings in Tuba el-Zangaria, including the town council, medical clinic, recreation center and community center in response to arson against mosque. It is somewhat unclear why they chose to burn their own buildings, but this is what occurred. Bedouin residents of the area are holding a general strike in solidarity with town following the attack.

The daily Haaretz reports that Arab youths fired live gunfire at police during the confrontations Monday night.

While Chief Rabbi Shlomo Moshe Amar Shlita, who visited the village on Monday evening warned that we are not certain if a Jew is responsible for the attack, police are being somewhat less cautious, announcing it appears to have been the work of ‘Price Tag’ (Tag Machir – תג מחיר) activists in retaliation for the murders of Asher and Yonatan Pamer near Kiryat Arba last week.

  1. How did these Arabs get guns? Did the Israeli police go after them? Shouldn’t people who fire on police be sought out with a man-hunt??
sounds weird that nothing more is said.
